National Organization of State Offices of
Rural Health

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) is the membership association of the nation’s 50 State Offices of Rural Health and the proud founder of National Rural Health Day.

NOSORH and National Rural Health Day (NRHD)

NRHD was developed to formally recognize those whose work and contributions positively impact the unique healthcare needs of people living and working in rural America. NOSORH is committed to the goal of transforming a single day of recognition into a more meaningful and impactful “Power of Rural” movement. State Offices of Rural Health

Since 1995, NOSORH has assisted State Offices of Rural Health (SORH) in improving access to, and the quality of, health care for nearly 61 million rural Americans. SORH are anchors of information and support for rural communities, health professionals, hospitals and clinics across the nation. They are dedicated to collaboration, education, communication and innovation to improve health in small towns nationwide. All 50 states have a SORH. These offices vary in size, scope, organization, and services and resources they provide. Most are organized within the state health departments, but some are in universities or not-for-profit organizations. While funding levels and sources vary, every state receives some funding from the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy through the SORH Grant Program. Learn more by connecting with your state’s SORH.

The Power of Rural Movement

After experiencing incremental successes with the day-long celebration, NOSORH has grown deeply committed to making a greater investment in NRHD, setting a larger goal of transforming a single day of recognition into a more meaningful and impactful movement.
